Tolkien Humour

There is a long tradition in the Tolkien fandom of geeky in-jokes and writings.  Some are written in the form of fanfiction, some as essays, and some are probably in leet-speak.  This is a small collection of humour that I have written and that has inspired me.

My Humour

The Lore Institute for Examination (L.I.E.) is dedicated to bringing you quality essays that deconstruct so-called ‘popular wisdom’ and widely accepted ‘facts’ about Tolkien’s legendarium.  Tolkien’s stories are ostensibly based on histories written by characters within the story, who are thus fallible.  It’s amazing what we can learn once we accept that.

If you are interested in the cinematic adaptations of The Lord of the Rings, you may be interested in some of the following deconstructions of both live-action and animated adaptations of Tolkien’s work.

  • PJ Looking for Lore: our intrepid director does research for the movies on the Internet.
  • A Bakshi Forum: the sort of avatars you might be seeing if PJ hadn’t come along.
